Interview: Pete Widin (Oatpod) discusses latest single “Xtngwsh,” upcoming material

Pete Widin is a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Under the one-man band moniker Oatpod, his electro folk and grunge-inspired craft is solidified through long walks in nature, as well as elaborate dreams centering around bands and artists performing fully arranged pieces, which serve as the basis for his original music. While amassing an already prolific output comprising both band and solo efforts, Widin considers his latest single, “xtngwsh,” his first true musical undertaking, as it fully takes advantage of the production aspect, and represents the catalyst for his pursuit of music in a professional setting.

This afternoon, I caught up with Widin, who was open to doing an interview. Alongside our discussion of Widin’s latest single, we also touch upon his upcoming material, how his formative years shaped his background as a naturalist and ecologist, maintaining patience amidst hurdles in the creative process, and ultimately, the takeaways within his music career thus far.

About Jake Kussmaul

I come from a family who is passionate about all things music. I learned to sing at an early age, and by 13, had my very own Fender Strat guitar. I tried my hardest at learning all that I could. Because I was born with cerebral palsy, I had to teach myself an adaptive playing style. I learned to write and record my own music, despite these difficulties. In college, I started making great use of my writing abilities by reviewing music, as well as copy editing. I guess it's best to stick with what you know, while welcoming a fair challenge at the same time.
