Classless Act’s Derek Day Joins Mötley Crüe and Foo Fighters for Taylor Hawkins Tribute

On the second installment of the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert that took place at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on September 27, the 6 hour event showcased the talents of countless legends of rock. Over 50 musicians honored the late drummer and performed an array of classic rock songs, including appearances from Joan Jett, Miley Cyrus, Them Crooked Vultures, Def Leppard, Alanis Morissette, Chad Smith, Lars Ulrich, Queen, and more.

At the halfway point of the lengthy memoriam, Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe took the stage alongside the Foo Fighters to perform songs “Live Wire” and “Home Sweet Home.” Vocals were provided not by Vince Neil, but rather the up-and-coming rocker Derek Day of Classless Act, who are quickly making a name for themselves with the support of their rock and roll forefathers. Stepping in at the last minute to perform the two Mötley Crüe hits, Day impressed with his cutting vocals and matured professionalism, fitting in onstage amongst some of rock’s most notorious veterans.

Day’s band Classless Act has gained popularity over the course of the year, with the release of their debut album, Welcome to the Show, and their opening slot on the mega Stadium Tour where they joined forces with Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett. Music Existence recently caught up with Day while the band wrapped up their run on the Stadium Tour and discussed working alongside so many accomplished musicians.

On Instagram, the band praised the lead singer’s last-minute performance, following the tribute show. With Taylor Hawkins’ legacy as a source of inspiration and momentum for the singer, Day skillfully took the reins to honor one of his heroes.
