The Foxies share official music video for “If Live Were A Movie”

Nashville power-trio The Foxies recently announced the September 23 release of their debut LP, Who Are You Now, Who Were You Then?. Today, the band is thrilled to share their cinematic new single and accompanying Ryan Sheehy-directed video for “If Life Were A Movie,” which follows on the heels of the euphoric “Headsweat.” Their full-length debut is the sound of a band boldly embracing their wildest and most unpredictable impulses.

Speaking on “If Life Were A Movie,” vocalist Julia Bullock reflected on the song’s themes: “When I listen to this song, I see a horror rom com. It’s built around the cynicism I have from giving so much love and somehow never being able to have it reciprocated. So, In a movie… all my exs would be killed off first, and nobody wants to be that guy.”

The band’s Jake Ohlbaum had this to say about the song: “After you lose the love you fell for, there’s pain and loss and sadness. But after that, sometimes, you get angry – angry at that person for screwing you over, and angry at yourself for falling so hard. It makes you want the poetic justice of “killing the bad guy.” A horror movie death can be both silly and satisfying, simultaneously. If anything, “If Life Were a Movie” should mean “If MY life were a movie, I’d be the protagonist. I’d be the hero, you’d be the bad guy, and even though my broken heart comes with some great character development, it’s still your fault, and now you gotta go. Sorry, not sorry.”

In a thrilling new chapter for Bullock, Ohlbaum, and drummer Rob Bodley, The Foxies expand on the dizzy abandon of their acclaimed 2020 EP Growing Up Is Dead, harnessing the explosive freedom of punk while endlessly turning out pop-perfect hooks. An up-close look at self-discovery in a chaotic world, Who Are You Now, Who Were You Then? ultimately matches its visceral impact with bluntly poetic yet heartfelt lyrics—the type of irreverent truth-telling sure to inspire countless tattoos and recklessly scrawled bedroom graffiti.
