Marilyn Manson Releases Grim New Video For Cover Of “God’s Gonna Cut You Down”

As some of you may know by now Marilyn Manson has been recording a new album with outlaw country rock star Shooter Jennings.

Manson had told Revolver Magazine, the album has still yet to be named, but “it’s the album that should be called Marilyn Manson,” while the actual material itself, he explained as saying: “I’m in a mode in life where I wanted to tell stories with this record, and it’s sort of like a wax museum of my thoughts, a study of the chamber of horrors in my head. All the romance and hope you can have in the world, here in the End Times where it can be a different kind of apocalypse for each person listening to the record. “I tried to paint it with words, and Shooter with sounds, so you can see and hear all of your longing, your passion and despair. “That’s sort of a dramatic explanation of it! But it is full of drama. I wouldn’t compare it to any of my other records, but you hear a bit of everything. It’s like I’ve focused everything into one spot, finally.”

 Today, Marilyn Manson has released his brand new music video for his cover of “God’s Gonna Cut You Down”. The track was originally recorded by Bill Landford and the Landfordairs back in 1949 and also was originally titled “Run On For a Long Time”.The lyrics are a warning to sinners that no matter how hard they try, they will not avoid God’s judgment. As “God’s Gonna Cut You Down”, it was performed by Odetta on Odetta Sings Ballads and Blues in 1956, since then the song has been covered by The King himself Elvis Presley, along with many other artis, but most famously covered by Johnny Cash and appeared on the 2006’s posthumously released American V: A Hundred Highways. Manson later collaborated and recorded a version with producer and ex-guitarist/band mate Tyler Bates in 2017, and was put on Bates’ film score for 24 Hours to Live. The
