Emerging singer AMAAL provides fresh take on modern pop with “Need It Too”

Four years ago, a then-14-year old AMAAL honed his talent through private music lessons, taking cue from both classic and contemporary artists. But the Washington, DC-based singer has had these sounds resonating with him since he was a toddler – starting from Queen, Prince, and Madonna and then eventually Beyonce, Jay Z, and Rihanna. This diverse range of artists allows him to cope through the most trying bouts, of both physical and emotional pain.

A sufferer of both chronic pain and anxiety, Singh, now 18, puts up a worthy fight. His new single, “Need It Too,” centers on the polarities of an on-again/off-again relationship, and the longing which likely results from its erratic nature. What makes the track stand out, though, is the tranquil synth waves that encompass its foundation. Singh’s silky, yet firm vocal delivery complements those blissful vibes throughout, proving a subtly hypnotic, and all the more uplifting listen.

About Jake Kussmaul

I come from a family who is passionate about all things music. I learned to sing at an early age, and by 13, had my very own Fender Strat guitar. I tried my hardest at learning all that I could. Because I was born with cerebral palsy, I had to teach myself an adaptive playing style. I learned to write and record my own music, despite these difficulties. In college, I started making great use of my writing abilities by reviewing music, as well as copy editing. I guess it's best to stick with what you know, while welcoming a fair challenge at the same time.
