Diana Espir, season two contestant of The Voice France is taking over of the US pop scene with the release of her female empowerment anthem “Side Chick.” The single is a follow up to her 2015 hit “Tomboy” featuring GRAMMY® Award Winning rap artist Nelly, which earned Diana a coveted spot in the iHeartRadio Rising Star Program. “Side Chick” was co-written by Victoria Monet (Ariana Grande, Janelle Monae, T.I.), and Tommy Brown (Ariana Grande, Fifth Harmony, Chris Brown), as well as Produced by Tommy Brown. The music video was co-directed by Diana Espir and Damien Sandoval (Pia Mia, The-Dream). The single is available for on iTunes, Amazon and Google Play.
A fan favorite on The Voice France, Diana captivated viewers and judges with her powerful renditions of “What A Feeling” by Irene Cara and “Torn” by Natalie Imbruglia. Diana Espir is known for her powerhouse vocals, and being more than a triple threat – a classically trained vocalist, pianist, dancer and songwriter. With her petite frame, flawless skin and British accent, Diana embodies the millennial female; a sassy, independent and free spirit who is blind to labels on love, race, and gender.
“Side Chick” is a pop-rhythmic female anthem track that will have you pressing “replay” again and again with its contagious pop hook and irresistible melodies, about a girl demanding love and loyalty from her tricky guy that is all tied up with another girl.
“‘Side Chick’ is about spreading the empowering message of liberation and that all women deserve to be loved. In this day in age, young girls don’t have to settle. They can command respect and not be afraid of going after their dreams of happiness,” says Diana Espir. “I hope that through this song, that we can break down stereotypes and labels and get to know the unique stories of women, not seek to divide us,” she adds.
The provocative music video provides a modern re-telling of the classic tale of Marilyn Monroe, known historically for being the other woman. In the video, Diana plays a girl in love with a guy who is already in a relationship. The guy spoils her with diamond bracelets and necklaces, and he throws a private birthday party with just the two of them – for fear of being seen in public with another girl. But she grows tired of being the “side chick.” The girl seeks validation and wants the guy to man up and do the right thing.
Diana Espir will be releasing her breakthrough EP in early 2016.
