Cody Howell is the one to watch this fall in country music. After listening to his single, “Any Way You Go” it is impossible to miss Howell’s perfectly gritty vocals, lyrical authenticity and pure love for the best of country life. It’s hard to believe that this is the up-and-coming artist’s first release.
This western-country take on a party anthem is all about going with the flow and the joy of celebrating every-day life. Story-filled and transportive, Howell’s song paints the picture of a Friday night bonfire tailgate with all of his friends. No timetables, no rules and most importantly, no stress.
It’s all about the big picture: being together and not getting caught up in the little, insignificant details. Each verse lists out different choices his friends could make throughout the day but each chorus reminds the listener that none of those things really matter stating, “Any way you go, it’s all gonna be the same ol’ thing, weekend drinkin’ PM to the AM any way you go.”

The song’s nostalgic sound inspires a sense of belonging, inviting listeners into the new, yet familiar, world of Cody Howell.
The old-fashioned singer has a perfectly balanced voice reminiscent of smooth and smokey whiskey. The rich rasp in his tone builds on the song’s bonfire imagery, audibly resembling the warmth and crackle of the flames. One of my favorite moments in the song is when “the audience” echos back and joins Howell in singing the last chorus. This final engaging addition to the track only reaffirms its themes of community, belonging and invitation.
