Floodgate Operators, a bluegrass band headquartered in Crested Butte, is all set to release “New Mexico Winds” this coming Friday, January 28. “New Mexico Winds” is a part of Floodgate Operators’ highly anticipated 10-track debut album “Flood the World,” which the band plans to release in April 2022. This two-and-a-half-minute track is sure to captivate listeners, as it has amazing melodies and a distinct western vision that will instantly offer listeners a sense of solitude and freedom. “New Mexico Winds” showcases banjo player Ryan Maddux’s evocative sensation and visualization, driven by the infamous gunman of the American Old West, “Billy the Kid,” and New Mexico’s disordered region before obtaining statehood. Maddux contemplated the thoughts of Billy the Kid during his time as he repeatedly drifted away from the authorities as he cruised across the gorgeous landscapes of New Mexico. The band will transport listeners back in time by using harmonizing sound paired with a spectrum of lyrical musicianship to recreate memories and recollections.
The Floodgate Operators is a five-piece bluegrass band that was formed in 2018 and is known for producing unique and extremely enjoyable music. Kevin Doherty (twelve-string guitar), Ryan Maddux (banjo), Scott Stewart (six-string guitar), Zach Vaughter (mandolin), and Sebastian Akesson (bass) make up this talented band. They made an impressive entry in the music world in 2020 with their debut EP, ‘Drought Driven Days.’ Their shared love of music is what binds them together on a deeper level and motivates them to create wonderful music that resonates with their listeners.
