If you haven’t been paying attention, Master Puff has been having a year. After dropping a mixtape of older SoundCloud tracks, the Ohio MC released his first legit single, “Good, Real Good”. The track lit up Spotify playlists, had a great DIY video, secured the rapper a deal with Acathla Clothing, who funded his first tour.
Riding the hype train into the fall, Master Puff just dropped his follow-single, “Playing Rich”. The track raises the bar higher than Good, Real Good in terms of both production and Master Puff’s delivery and flow. The track, produced by LANCEXCV, mixed & mastered by Conz, features Puff’s lyrical acrobatics over a chill flute loop and sparse percussion.
Lyrically, Puff speaks on the ills of stunting without means. “I saw an artist I used to look up to go broke from a gambling addiction,” explains Master Puff. “Even after losing his savings, he still tried to live the extravagant life he grew accustomed to. All I saw was somebody trying to play rich instead of holding themselves accountable. Like Marshawn Lynch once said, “Take care of your chickens“.”
