Uuchie is a Finnish musician and entrepreneur. Having earned a degree in classical music from Helsinki’s Sibelius-Akatemia, Uuchie currently resides in the United States, where she writes, records, produces and releases music independently. Similarly, her new single, “Yummy Yummy” aims to inspire young women everywhere to own their independence, and its message has resonated exponentially. Just six months after the song’s release on SoundCloud, it has gained nearly half a million hits, a testament to her ambition.
“Yummy Yummy” is characterized by a dominant, straightforward groove, swiftly complemented by Uuchie’s vocals. I find her tonality to be as fitting as it is interesting – sultry and cheeky, but with a punk-esque aesthetic that also plays a role, albeit subtly, in enforcing that dominance. As such, her thematic angle centers around the pleasure of sexual engagement without attachment. In other words, cutting through any initial uncertainty and simply getting what she wants. Once the chorus hits, the manner in which the synth sequence accentuates her vocals succeeds at making her intentions clear, both lyrically and sonically. Uuchie seems well on her way in terms of establishing her musical identity, and conveying a message that revitalizes the importance of not only embracing sexuality, but achieving desires head-on.
