Boat Race Weekend Release New Music Video for “Youth”

Spokane-based emo/indie trio Boat Race Weekend released their new album Near & Dear last month and today you can watch the music video for the reflective single “Youth.” The video was shot with cell phones and put together by their bassist Collin Price using an outdated Macbook, adding to its DIY charm.

The goal was to capture the joys you experience at different stages of life,” says drummer Jay Orth. “We reached out to friends and families and collected video clips because we wanted it to have that home video feel. We had another friend use his phone to take a video of the three of us playing in the living room of the house where we as a band have spent the last three years together living, growing up, and writing music.

Lyrically, the track was inspired by the birth of vocalist Evan Kruschke’s daughter who says “It’s a reflection on growing up and transitioning to a new stage in life. Exploring how thoughts and priorities change over the years.

The three members of Boat Race Weekend have been best friends since childhood, but officially formed the band in 2013 while attending Gonzaga University. After solidifying their sound via DIY house shows, the band recorded their debut album The Talisman, followed by 2016’s Throw Your Head to the World!. With a touring resume built by gigging up and down the coast of California and throughout the pacific northwest, they’ve opened for bands such as The Story So Far, This Wild Life, ’68, and Listener.

Near & Dear is available on Bandcamp and iTunes.
