After several weeks of teasing some new material, You Me At Six finally have dropped some new bangers for us YMAS fans to dive into teeth first! Tonight on BBC Radio 1 with DJ Annie Mac, the Surrey bred boys dropped first lead single from their upcoming sixth full length record VI, ‘3AM’.
YMAS have taking a totally new direction with their sound, just like any band in recent years with 3AM, with the use of synth’s giving the track a power-pop spin which works in great harmony with frontman Josh Franceschi’s voice which has developed significantly since the band’s first full length Take Off Your Colours, 10 years ago. Seems to me that the new track takes some inspiration from major bands such as Coldplay and MGMT, while somehow still keeping that traditional YMAS feel to it.
After three years of waiting between fourth album Cavalier Youth and fifth album Night People, the band decided to apologise for the wait by dropping us two tracks on the same night, so moments after dropping 3AM, the lads also gave us the opening track on the album Fast Forward, which, in its sound, pays homage to the two previous albums with a quick paced, alternatively heavy banger! The husky voice of Josh and heavy drumming of Dan give the track that heavy edge that it deserves.
These two totally different sounding tracks is more then enough to give us a perfect insight on what kinds of sounds to expect from the album which a super heavy track, and a brand new sounding pop song.
You can pre order the album (out October 5th), with some sick bundles and even test pressings of the record by clicking here!
Also, you can listen to both new tracks on Apple Music, Spotify and other popular streaming services.
