Forming in 2019, the Dallas, Texas quartet The Intemperate Sons debuted a robust blend of grunge and folk, indie pop, and electronic music dressings. Last year, the band’s debut album, The Color Within, saw these influences bolstered to an impressive scale, thanks to the additional involvement of John Painter, Amir Derakh, and Mike Marsh in the recording and production processes. Their latest single, “Lake of Poison,” has similarly made the rounds alongside a new batch of songs, which will comprise a follow-up album slated for release early next year.
Tonight, the band heads to Maverick’s in Arlington for a gig with longtime friends Chin’s Mojo, who have recently reunited. Ahead of the show, I caught up with Intemperate Sons’ drummer and primary lyricist, Keith Watson to discuss the band’s material and the endurance of their bond, not only as bandmates but as family.
