Interview: Seth Rafkin (A Doll’s House) discusses debut single, “Hey Wait”

Despite debuting this year, the roots of A Doll’s House actually stretch back much further. In the late 80s, the emerging three-piece developed a local following as part of the Sunset Strip music scene in Los Angeles, California. Life would proceed to take over for the next few decades, and each member’s musical pursuits would take a back seat in favor of a professional career trajectory, but their bonds with one another remained strong. By September 8th, 2023, the newly assembled quartet returned to fine form with “Hey Wait,” the carrier single off their upcoming debut album Annum, which saw production by Tesla bassist Brian Wheat.

I caught up with Seth Rafkin, founding bassist of A Doll’s House, to discuss his formative influences, the catalyst for the band’s reunion, working with Brian Wheat on their album, and leaving their own imprint in a modern music climate.

About Jake Kussmaul

I come from a family who is passionate about all things music. I learned to sing at an early age, and by 13, had my very own Fender Strat guitar. I tried my hardest at learning all that I could. Because I was born with cerebral palsy, I had to teach myself an adaptive playing style. I learned to write and record my own music, despite these difficulties. In college, I started making great use of my writing abilities by reviewing music, as well as copy editing. I guess it's best to stick with what you know, while welcoming a fair challenge at the same time.
