Single Review: Long Neck “Gardener”

The defining point of the indie music scene is being able to find something unique that you can’t find in the mainstream. Indie music is for experimenting and breaking boundaries that people think music needs to have. What I like about “Gardener” by the band Long Neck is that it’s true to the artist. It’s raw. It’s honest.

The production is well done with the layered vocals, along with the featuring vocals by RN Taylor of Los Campesinos!, sitting well on the instrumental. So many people think a song needs to be thrashing or exploding with wild synths or poppy vocals to stand out, but stripped down songs are where you can seek out true talent.

Long Neck doesn’t need all of the fancy jazz and glimmer to prove that they’re talented artists in the indie music scene. They make songs about what they want. They work together to create a complementing instrumental to their theme. They pull lyrics from the soul. Then, a memorable song is created.

“Gardener” is one of those songs that will make a mark on the indie music scene as will the band itself. They’ve put out three albums so far, and their success will only continue with each release they put out. They’re also an avid touring act, and I urge you to experience their songs like at a venue near you.
