Young Sovl is a multifaceted hip hop/R&B artist based in Broward County, Florida. Having sung in high school choirs, his passion for music continued through college as he delved into his studies of music and music business. After expanding his skillset to comprise piano and opera, he began linking producers up with local emerging talent, including Syaridakid, Kevin Cossom, and Trae the Truth, just to name a few. Eventually, he was able to prioritize his own music career, performing shows, and serving as co-producer alongside Ray Ali, with whom he recently scored a Capitol Records-backed sync licensing deal.

The representative single for Young Sovl is “Groove.” Its retro-styled cover art seems to be enough of a grabber already, and its music equals in importance. Taking a subtle, chill approach to the instrumentation, Young Sovl keeps things minimal – a warm synth sequence enveloping light, yet bite-filled tribal percussion. His vocal tonality fits well in much the same way – straightforward and melodic without having to necessarily show off an overt, dynamic vocal range. Taking the effectiveness of the presentation into account, it’s not an outright command for listeners to dance, but a humble invitation for them to simply move their feet.

About Jake Kussmaul

I come from a family who is passionate about all things music. I learned to sing at an early age, and by 13, had my very own Fender Strat guitar. I tried my hardest at learning all that I could. Because I was born with cerebral palsy, I had to teach myself an adaptive playing style. I learned to write and record my own music, despite these difficulties. In college, I started making great use of my writing abilities by reviewing music, as well as copy editing. I guess it's best to stick with what you know, while welcoming a fair challenge at the same time.
