Single Review. “Oasis” – Kendra Erika

“Oasis,”which was released in mid December, is Kendra Erika’s latest single, a vivacious tune that is a dance club’s dream. It begins with some electronic instrumentation and some autotuning on Erika’s voice. This is a brief but sad moment in the song because while it is a trendy tool in pop songs it diminishes the fact that Erika has a really amazing voice. Nothing should hide that. There are a sea of clichéd lyrics such as “seven billion grains of sand/one life to live” but somehow Erika makes it work. It fits right into todays top 40 radio landscape and definitely has an Ariana Grande vibe to it, which makes sense since “Oasis” was produced by Damon Sharpe, a Grammy Winner who has worked with Grande in the past. Upbeat and with a positive message, Erika manages to put her best foot forward even when the lyrics seem uninspired. The chorus is one phrase repeated over and over again but it’s so catchy that it really doesn’t matter. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised to see that one phrase “let’s get lost in the oasis” on t-shirts and posters. Turn the tune up and dance your cares away. It’s a great way to end 2016.
