Single Review: John Vento “Brick by Brick”

John Vento is well known in the roots rock and americana music circles, and for good reason. The singer-songwriter is one of the best storytellers in the genre, and he delivers powerful music with every song he releases. Every release seems to outdo his last, and that’s why we’re excited to take a look at his latest single, “Brick by Brick.” We always expect nothing but the best of rock’n’roll from John Vento, so join us as we check and see if “Brick by Brick” lives up to the expectations in our full review.

As expected of John, his songwriting here is simply impeccable. No matter where the story goes, the singer-songwriter manages to find some creative way to describe the moment. “Brick by Brick” is a very energetic performance from the rock country musician, and naturally the writing her matches that. While it’s not a particularly deep song, the way it’s presented by John Vento really sells you on the grounded themes the song.

Matching the grounded themes of the song, John’s delivery on “Brick by Brick” is also some very good stuff. It’s by and far the strongest aspect of the tune. The singer’s voice is raw and powerful, while also remaining relaxed and calm. It also retains that special John Vento quality of sounding like someone telling you their life story, with a personal touch really giving the song a particular flavor. Of course, the rock’n’roll energy of the song also comes in here, giving it an energy that pairs up well.

Musically, “Taxi” is a very simple song, though the arrangement can feel surprisingly full on account of the wall of sound it builds up. The tune is quite representative of John Vento’s rock side, impactful and catchy with intense amounts of buildup. Throughout it all however, John’s vocals helps maintain that personal aspect to the song that we highlighted earlier, as it keeps things grounded and enjoyable.

John Vento delivers once again, and we’re in awe of the sheer quality that he’s managed to present in his latest single. “Brick by Brick” stands tall as a phenomenal showing for the artist, and it’s always something special when John Vento brings something new to the table. As always, we simply can’t wait for what other enthralling and interesting works he has in the works. If it’s anything like his previous work, then we’re sure it’s going to be a blast to listen to.
