Single Review: Alex Krawczyk “Rhythm of the Road”

I am so very excited, the latest single from soprano folk artist Alex Krawczyk has been released. Rhythm of the Road is the most recent single which is implied to solidify her nomination for Best New Artist in the Canadian Folk Music Awards. After the great success of her debut album Le Olam, Alex is building a respected and appreciated catalog of folk hits. Rhythm of the Road has a lightness to it, it has complexity and layering to it but still feels darting, like a butterfly floating through the air with a wisp yet still has direction. Lyrically she speaks of the calling of the road yet also returning home. Was it her being called to the road, or was this a metaphorical journey somebody else taking a journey of self-reflection? Rhythm of the Road is folk-inspired country music that utilizes a soprano vocal over a rooted folk melody that allows Alex to employ her full vocal range. This is harmonized against the acoustic guitar to offer fullness to the mix yet gives Rhythm Of The Road a live performance feel. This under-produced aspect keeps the listener grounded in the performance channeling Alex Krawczyk’s ability to connect with her audience, a familiarity to the archetype of journey and exploration of inner turmoil and resolution.

It is the singular nature of Alex Krawczyk’s music that makes it so approachable to such a diverse audience. Rhythm Of The Road being a simple song, with essentially a simple theme and harmonic structure offers a challenge to its listeners by employing imagery and metaphor in every lyric which seems to be painstakingly penned. The production of Rhythm Of The Road is also mature, professional, and competent lending the same professionalism we come to expect from Alex Krawcyzyk. Rhythm Of The Road would be a great addition to any Folk, Country, Adult Contemporary, or Middle-Of-The-Road commercial playlist due to its replayable nature and the effective dance-like response it evokes in its audience. A very enjoyable track and lives up to my anticipation of this latest single.
