The UK-based American expat Erika Olson writes music to connect who she was as a litigation lawyer to who she was becoming, a stay at home mom. Motherhood gave birth to Erika’s artistry and reminded her that she was wild. She found that her roots were better suited to cracking concrete than climbing ladders. She found she was not born to follow rules that did not account for her. Rather, she was born to bewilder them.
Erika just released her new folk ballad “As I Am” The acoustic based song is about how relationships change because the people in them do. Over time, priorities change, life happens, and as time goes on, neither party is the same they once were.
“This song started out with an aching need to be seen for all that I was and was becoming. But as the song evolved and I heard to aching hearts yearning to be seen and to be reminded of who they once were and could still be,” shares Erika. “I wanted to explore this changing nature of people, love and relationships, and yet honor that we still carry parts of those younger years with us. It is a bittersweet reflection on an evolving love between two committed partners.”
Her raw vocal talent married with her wide open lyrics are what makes her the next breakout star. Her Brandi Carlile meets Tracy Chapman sound is full bodied. Her friend and musician Dan Raza brought another layer of tenderness and love to the song.
