Single Review: Ananda Xenia Shakti “Devi”

Ananda Xenia Shakti is one of the most eclectic and interesting musical acts on the scene right now. With a truly unique blend of soft rock and spiritual hindi music, Ananda Xenia Shakti has been gaining a lot of attention. It certainly helps that a lot of her music also turns out to be solid, and not merely different for the sake of being different.

That’s why when we saw she had a new single out, we knew we had to check it out. After all, it’s a new song, so it must bring some fascinating new things to the table right? Well, now that we’ve listened to the new single titled “Devi,” we’re glad to say that we were once again surprised by her performance, in a positive way.

Ananda Xenia Shakti brings her usual blend of spiritual sounds to the new single, but there’s also a lot more to dig into outside of just that. While it does have a familiar sound, there’s also a fascinating amount of new things that it brings to the table. It makes for a fresh new experience, just like listening to Ananda Xenia Shakti’s music all over again.

We found the nice guitar riffs to go quite nicely with the more mysterious, spiritual sound of the percussion. As is the case with a lot of Hindi music, the percussion takes up a big part of the mix, but thankfully the sound mixing here is smart, not going too overboard with it. It helps tone down the sheer harshness of the sound, while maintaining its unique sound.

The songwriting on display matches the overall tone of the song, being somewhat mysterious but mostly transcendental in nature. It’s straight to the point and mostly literal, but there’s a sense of mysticism behind it that makes it all the more enjoyable. It’s all incredibly straightforward, but the magical touch keeps things interesting.

Overall, “Devi” is an interesting single, sure to keep your attention and not let go. There’s a lot to enjoy, and Ananda Xenia Shakti keeps things interesting with her eclectic blend as usual. It’s an inspired sound, one that you’ll struggle to find anywhere else, and this single is an excellent example of that. We’re really looking forward to what else she has in the works.
