Single Review: Najjah Calibur “I’m Good”

Some voices can do anything – from R&B to rock, jazz to country, these singers can cover just about any ground they lay their eyes on, and while I just got turned onto the music of Najjah Calibur this month, I have a feeling he might be one of these special vocalists after hearing his new single “I’m Good.” As its name implies, “I’m Good” is a track that is bound to inspire a positive mood in anyone who gets caught up in its hard-rocking groove, which, to be fair, is likely anyone who gives this song a spin.

Calibur’s spitfire vocal is definitely worthy of the lion’s share of the spotlight in this single, and yet the backdrop created through the heavy music is easily just as much of a star as his singing is. “I’m Good” is a rare single that has appeal to multiple genres without really sounding like the deliberate crossover a lot of other hybrid tracks do, and it’s in this spirit that anyone can tell how authentic Calibur is being in his performance here. This is no radio-ready front, but instead a song that comes straight from an artist’s heart.

I would love to hear this singer play on stage sometime, but until then I think I’m getting a good depiction of what he can do in the music video for “I’m Good.” His passion is effortless and there’s certainly a lack of competition in the alternative rock underground at the moment, which gives a piece like this a good chance of finding exposure where others would just end up with minimal plays somewhere on the internet. Najjah Calibur has my approval, and no matter what aesthetical route he takes from here, I think he’s going to be a performer we want to keep tabs on.
