David Austin shares new single “Good Company”

While David Austin delivered a bonafide jukebox smash with “Let Them Boys Play,” a rowdy rendition of a small town brawl, it is only one song that Austin recently shared. He also released “Good Company,” a jazz-soaked earworm that finds itself among Austin’s best. Written amid the global pandemic last year, Austin realized the simple importance of having good people in your life to share experiences with. “The forced separation that we went through early in the pandemic showed me how important our personal relationships are – I think that’s really where the song came from.” Combining rock elements with jazz and alternative groove, “Good Company” reveals a new side of Austin, one that is seasoned and genuine. His vocal performance mirrors his storytelling, which gives insight to his musical influences of classic rock and jazz.

Telling the complex fictional story of “Father Thompson,” a farmer who was once a soldier in WWII, Austin coasts through cleverly worded verses before opening into a perfectly crafted chorus that insists those we surround ourselves with are the main source of lifelong happiness. “But it’s not the what / or the when / Or the where that matters / It’s the who do we got to fill the ranks around us,” Austin croons, delicately weaving the fictional story of ‘Father Thomas’ into a relatable concept. His keen ability to intertwine an imaginary character with a life lesson demonstrates his unique storytelling ability, and cements Austin as a standout songwriter.
