September 2021 – Something quite special can happen when the sound of electronic music collides with the unique twist of world music. CICI Zhu’s style is so unique that it could easily be described as its own genre: “Zhengtronic” – a mix of Guzheng music (an ancient Chinese traditional instrument) and modern electronic sounds. While some might think that these genres are worlds apart, British artist and producer CICI Zhu perfectly demonstrates how those sounds can be combined to create something that’s one of a kind.
The artist recently unveiled a brand-new studio single titled “Silk Road.” The song offers a hypnotic improvisation on the guzheng siting perfectly on top of experimental industrial drumbeats, creating a raw, underground sound. The mysterious opening in “Silk Road” shares familiarities to the soundtracks of Japanese thrillers, and is followed by a heavy, edgy drop that shocks and entertains listeners.
“Just doing my own thing…” – the Zhengtronic artist CICI Zhu wrote on her social media under a clip of a live performance preview of “Silk Road” before the track was released. Indeed, her sound is so unique that no one is doing what she’s doing. CICI Zhu translates her fusion culture back-ground into her music, integrating sounds from the Far East into electronic music, carving a hybrid style that’s truly hers.
This new release is a showcase of personality, passion and musicianship. CICI Zhu’s songs are all written, performed, produced, and mixed by her-self, demonstrating her artistic integrity and ability to create music that represents who she is as an artist. “Silk Road” also comes with a music video featuring stunning visuals that perfectly match the song’s mood. The new release is available for streaming on all platforms now.
