Music Existence Because of Music, We Exist
Four years ago, the world lost a rock legend and voice for the voiceless, when Chester Bennington died on July 20th, 2017. Still fresh from the realities of losing Chester, California alternative rock artist Doug Ferguson, who records and performs under the moniker Dreams Of Vertigo, was in the crowd as Bennington’s Linkin Park bandmate Mike Shinoda poured his heart out on a song he wrote, just a week after Chester took his life. That song was never officially released, but was called “Looking For An Answer“.
To mark the anniversary of Bennington’s passing, Dreams of Vertigo has composed an arrangement of Mike Shinoda’s “Looking For An Answer.” “I think I captured the emotion, while creating a song that maybe Linkin Park themselves would be proud of” says Ferguson.
For Ferguson, his love of Linkin Park goes back to seeing them live for the first time. “The first time I saw Linkin Park, was in a parking lot, in Best Buy… in front of nobody.” says Ferguson, “They were doing a showcase show for KROQ.” Ferguson instantly connected with Chester on a deep level. “The energy, the musicality, it just hit me,” he explains, “As I dove more into their music, I realized how Chester felt. How he suffered from depression, just like me. I felt it hard, and felt like I suddenly wasn’t alone.”
With Dreams Of Vertigo, Ferguson hopes to capture some of that magic. “He had a way with his lyrics. I tried to incorporate that into the songs I wrote. In hopes that, someday, someone would see my music the same way I saw Linkin Park. He truly is a once in a generation talent, that we likely won’t see again.” As time went on, Chester Bennington became more involved and outspoken about mental health issues, helping Ferguson and countless others. “When he lost his life, it hit me like a brick. I think it showed us, that even the toughest humans, are still not immune to just that….being a human.”

Dreams of Vertigo has had the honor of working with some of the biggest stars in pop punk, including having Mike Herrera (MXPX) and Tony Lovato (Mest) sing on his previous records. He’s recorded with engineer great Paul Miner (Atreyu, Death by Stereo,New Found Glory). Dreams of Vertigo, most recently released his cover of “The Innocent” (originally recorded by Goldfinger,Good Charlotte, and Mest), and his original track “Pull the Trigger”, which recently crossed 100,000 Spotify streams.
