Alt-pop hit makers Valley, have returned with an illuminating and introspective new single “SOCIETY,” out now via Capitol Records and Universal Music Canada. While addressing the artistic integrity of today’s music industry, the new track discusses the pressure artists often feel to produce hit after hit. The band, comprising of Rob Laska (vocals), Karah James (drums), Mickey Brandolino (guitar) and Alex DiMauro (bass), deliver their signature harmonies and unique instrumentation on the track while asking tough questions about the commodity of art vs. profit. Ironically, the new song comes on the heels of “Like 1999,” arguably the band’s most successful song yet.
Of “SOCIETY” lead singer Rob Laska says, “At times, what you truly have to say as an artist can feel diminished or not as important when it comes to the context of making a product or something that people will label as sellable and listenable. At the end of the day, SOCIETY is Valley accepting the terms and conditions of our identity, songs and career, the fact that we’ll never be able to please everyone but also coming to terms that no matter what the public considers to be a “hit”, we tell ourselves we’re always going to follow our own artistic arrow.”
