Alternative rock duo Tarah Who? has come a long way since their debut in the 2010s. With two full-length albums, three EPs, coverage everywhere from Kill the Music to The Ring Master, plus several singles marking the new decade, the band is now exceptionally known and only seem to get heavier with each release. Of the solid output of recent material, frontwoman Tarah Carpenter and drummer/backing vocalist Coralie Hervé punctuate that effort with the single “Swallow That Pill.”
Sporting up-tempo, punky energy, the song touches on the frustration of a hard worker being unappreciated and taken advantage of. Carpenter’s haunting low register works well alongside her complementary, chorus-tinged chords during the verses. Interestingly, Hervés’ drumming serves a dual role of sorts – the pacing of the song, as well as the rapid heartbeat of the song’s subject. Once the chorus comes into play, the combined heaviness and intensity of both musicians shine through in a fitting intensity only they are able to capture.
