Alternative rock multi-instrumentalist Shaun Mykal Walker has unveiled his latest single, “Baring My Soul.” Following the success of his previous effort, “Send in the Hero,” Walker writes this song from personal experience, having relocated from his native Australia and adjusting to his new life in San Diego, California, as he struggled to initiate necessary connections.
Right off the bat, I was impressed with the versatility of the single’s presentation, as it maintains its clarity given the amount of instrumental involvement. Walker’s clean vocals are ideal for the initially reverberated guitars, and more so once the percussion shifts the song to an up-tempo groove. The song’s thematic standpoint is reiterated during the song’s progression, wherein Walker doesn’t hesitate to admit how his internal shortcomings affect his approach to making friends, let alone advance in the music industry. Regardless, he maintains a resilient positivity as his pop-tinged, yet all the more soulful blend of rock continues to resonate.
