Joshua James Heyman is an emerging singer/songwriter from Hertfordshire, England. While in secondary school, Heyman became well-known as a dancer and performer, gradually tapping into the music of pop and R&B artists who would inspire his musicianship. Earlier this month, under the name Jace Heyman, he released his debut single, “Drunk Text,” the track to lead off his upcoming EP, Love Under the Influence, which is slated for release this summer.

According to Heyman, “Drunk Text” was written with fellow collaborator Dean Risko amidst a bout of post-breakup heartache, in particular, the kind from a failed rekindling of a connection with an ex. Heyman’s vocal tonality is definite pop material, bolstered by the smooth variations of a mid-tempo, head bop-worthy beat. Interestingly, the structure of the song seems to represent those nuances quite well, from the warmth of the synth sequence, to the excited, yet anxious subtlety in his vocal delivery, and the light patter of the island percussion bringing that sentiment together. The track is ideal for leading off his EP, and I’m certain the EP will also showcase a degree of stylistic expansion as additional vignettes are explored.

About Jake Kussmaul

I come from a family who is passionate about all things music. I learned to sing at an early age, and by 13, had my very own Fender Strat guitar. I tried my hardest at learning all that I could. Because I was born with cerebral palsy, I had to teach myself an adaptive playing style. I learned to write and record my own music, despite these difficulties. In college, I started making great use of my writing abilities by reviewing music, as well as copy editing. I guess it's best to stick with what you know, while welcoming a fair challenge at the same time.
