You might suspect that if the offspring of members of the Allman Brothers band got together, something good might come of it. And you’d be right! Devon Allman and Duane Betts’ group, The Allman Betts Band, begins a new musical legacy for the musicians with a rich musical family heritage. They are joined by another descendant of the Allman Brothers, bassist Barry Duane Oakley, drummer John Lum, percussionist R. Scott Bryan, John Ginty on keyboards, and Johnny Stachela on guitar.
With one album under their belts, 2019’s Down To The River, the band began a new leg of their tour promoting the album on February 5th at St. Charles, Illinois’ Arcada Theatre. The group impressed the fans in attendance, which, not surprisingly, consisted of many longtime Allman Brothers fans, with their brand of rock and roll.
In addition to playing many tracks from Down To The River, Allman Betts Band also played some choice covers: Allman Brothers’ Blue Sky, Prince’s Purple Rain, and The Grateful Dead classic, Shakedown Street.
Jackson Stokes and J.D Simo opened the show, both winning over the crowd and each closing their sets to standing ovations.
