My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult is currently on the second leg of the Strange Affairs Tour with the support of Curse Mackey. They made a thrilling stop at New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge and Music Existence was there for the party. For the uninitiated, the Thrill Kill Kult is an industrial disco/rock band that has been unafraid to experiment with different styles and sounds throughout the last three decades. Soloist Curse Mackey is a renowned industrial/darkwave artist that has been involved in the Thrill Kill Kult in the past and has also sung in Pigface and Evil Mothers.
Curse Mackey immediately started dropping hard-hitting bass lines that reverberated right in the chest. Song after song, the one man show kept delivering the unapologetic sound that keeps every industrial rock fan coming back for more. Whoever thought of Curse Mackey as support on this tour made an excellent choice. He got the crowd worked up for the anticipated headliner.
Having previously witnessed a Thrill Kill Kult show, I knew more or less what was about to go down. You see, this band is one of those acts that once they start performing, it’s a party straight through to the very end. Thrill Kill Kult co-founder and singer Groovie Mann charms the audience with his mischievous grin and playful ways, while keeping the other musicians on their toes. Bassist and backup vocalist, Mimi Star is always a delight to watch perform with her flower adorned-bass, as is Justin Bennett, the heavy-hitter behind the drums. Synth mastermind, vocalist, and fellow Thrill Kill Kult co-founder Buzz McCoy keeps to the keys and maintains this silent but ever present order to the madness.
The setlist was a diverse mix of their extensive discography that featured songs that satiated the auditory needs of all the fans there. From the first song right up to the last one, people were singing along and dancing ‘til the very end. My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult is one of those cult favorites you just have to experience for yourself.
