Live Review + Gallery: I Prevail at The Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ on (07.27.2019)

When I Prevail came through Montclair, New Jersey and hit The Wellmont Theater, let’s just say they brought the house down. After having to look for parking for what seemed like forever, it was clear to me what was happening: The Trauma Tour had arrived and Montclair was not ready for what was about to go down. Approaching the venue, I found myself navigating an endless sea of fans and confused locals alike. I Prevail’s fan base had showed up en masse and were prepared to rock out with their idols for an unforgettable night for all those involved.

The Michigan natives have been hitting cities across North America touring with the support of Issues and Justin Stone. Stone was just the tip of the iceberg. His performance was raw, powerful, and he worked the crowd into a spirited state. When Issues came onto the stage the good times just kept rolling. They had no issue…riling up the audience and putting on a fantastic show. Everyone was eating it up. This just made the anticipation for I Prevail that much stronger.

When I Prevail took the stage, there was an electric charge throughout the theater. Security amped up their presence in the pit because they could sense the advent of complete pandemonium.  Singing, crowd surfing, moshing, dancing (of sorts), the guys from I Prevail inspired their fans to make the night into what live shows are all about: rocking out like nobody’s watching.

With an endless supply of energy, vocalists Brian Burkheiser and Eric Vanlerberghe used every inch of the stage while engaging fans and delivering powerful vocals. Guitarists Dylan Bowman and Steve Menoian, along with drummer Gabe Helguera put on an impressive performance with unrelenting intensity. Everything about I Prevail was above and beyond that Saturday night. From their lighting to cryo effects, and most importantly their performance, I Prevail is a metalcore outfit you don’t want to miss. The band has overcome adversity and personal dilemmas that has inevitably shaped who they are and made them that much more relatable. Because in the end we all have to prevail over our dilemmas and come out the other side of our traumas.

So many puns.
