Live Review + Gallery: Teyana Taylor: House of Petunia at Grand Ballroom at Manhattan Center (05.15.19)

The 2019 edition of Red Bull Music Festival in New York continued with a concert at Grand Ballroom at Manhattan Center in New York, NY on Wednesday, May 15th. The more intimate space is seven floors above Hammerstein Ballroom and featured a sold out, headlining performance by singer, actress, dancer, and model Teyana Taylor who grew up in Harlem, a few neighborhoods north of the venue.

Taylor’s live show, named “House of Petunia,” featured a video of her in an elaborate chess outfit arriving to the stage via subway and elevators before coming out on stage. She was joined by special guests Fabolous (to rap his verse on her song, “Broken Hearted Girl”) and her husband, Houston Rockets’ (and former New York Knick) Iman Shumpert.

The day before the show, Taylor posted about the death of her great grandmother on Instagram stating that she was feeling overwhelmed. Despite her great loss, she managed to put her grief aside to give a knockout performance in the Grand Ballroom last night. “House of Petunia” featured costume changes, various dance routines, numerous dancers, plus some partial nudity which can be seen in the NSFW gallery below.
