I go by the name of Chxxrs (Pronounced : Cheers) which is my actual last name. Music has always been a part of my life. I’ve been singing since roughly three, my dad told me I knew how to sing entire songs before I was potty trained. I come from a split family, so when I was with my dad I would here a lot of 90’s RNB from Jodeci to Blackstreet and with my mom I would hear a lot of SWV and Escape type music. Even as a kid I would pay attention to lyrics, I really could see the images of the stories they were telling in the songs. As a teen I was always willing and ready to sing for anyone who wanted to hear me. As I got older, I started paying a lot more attention to songwriters than artists. I stumbled upon songwriters like James Fauntleroy, Ester Dean, Lonny Breaux (Now Frank Ocean) The Dream, Ne-Yo and the list goes on and on. I was recording pop music for a while and had a shady manager, and that was trying to create an image that wasn’t mine, that piled along with “life” made me Fallback for while. But as I’ve matured I’ve found myself musically and creatively using lyrics and music that’s more representative of me and who I am. From my septum piercing to the way I dress, it’s me. Although it sounds cheesy I want to make music people can connect to.
