Now currently in its fortieth year, BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival at Prospect Park Bandshell booked a stellar benefit concert featuring women singer-songwriters which help support the free concerts that occur at the venue each summer. On Wednesday, July 25, 2018, Courtney Barnett, who released the wonderful, Tell Me What You Really Feel, in May was supported by Julien Baker (of Memphis, TN), and Vagabon (née Lætitia Tamko of New York City).
Since the outdoor show was under the threat of rain all evening, all set times were earlier than usual and sets seemed shorter than expected. The inclement weather didn’t seem to deter fans who stood in the rain to enjoy all three performers. A few dressed up in costume for headliner Courtney Barnett including an “Elevator Operator,” and an “Avant Gardener” who Barnett mentioned before playing the former. She generously checked in to see how the crowd was doing in the rain during her set. In addition to introducing and thanking her band, she also thanked the lighting crew, the person working the monitors, everyone in attendance for enduring the less than ideal weather for this very special show and closed her set with “Pedestrian At Best.”
