Gallery: Starset at Gramercy Theater in New York City 04.24.17

I first discovered Starset just shy of three years ago when they opened up for Lacuna Coil at the Gramercy Theater in New York City. Since then, I’ve devoured every bit of material the band has to offer – from their debut album Transmissions, to the accompanying novel Prox: Transmissions and the latest, sophomore release Vessels (which I can’t rave enough about). So it was really cool to return to the venue where it all started, and while I had seen them perform three times prior, it was the first show since Vessels’ release.

With a new production, overhauled stage performance now incorporating string instruments and a heavier, decidedly more polished sound, Starset completely blew me away. Particularly stand-out track for me was Vessels‘ closing “Everglow,” an auditory masterpiece coming in just under 8-minutes. While its live counterpart didn’t quite make it to the 8-minute mark, frontman Dustin Bates’ vocal delivery on the song’s climatic scream gave me chills. I immediately wanted to hear it all over again. Playing a solid 17 track set clocking in at just under two hours, Starset delivered the sort of brutal sensory onslaught that can – and did – leave you winded.

But don’t take my word for it – Starset will be touring steadily through the end of June. See dates below.
