Recently releasing her highly-anticipated record, Songs for the Waiting, Janet Blair has been making waves inside the Christian music scene, and beyond. A perfectly balanced blend between Ellie Holcomb and Regina Spektor, she offers up a fresh new sound to the Christian music scene with her smooth, silvery voice, piano-pop sounds, and incomparable messages of hope and glory in the midst of sorrow.
Her latest single “Creation’s Song” came from the unexpected death of a friend’s child, immediately changed her songwriting path. Blair says of the recent change of direction “I was overwhelmed with hopelessness, when at 2 AM when God reminded me of where my hope is. He gave me a song. So I got out of bed, sat down at my piano and I wrote it out – my unexpected, unasked-for first song.”
The record throughout is filled with hope and finding yourself, as she has sat down at the piano and wrote her heart out. The songs on the record explore darkness and light, tragedy and triumph and beyond. With blending bright melodies which come to life in pieces such as “Eternity Grows,” and “Remember Hope,” we see the many different sides of Janet Blair. Teaming up with Matthew Odmark from Jars of Clay, we see an artist that is steadily making a name for herself, prominently, and one note at a time.
