John 5 brought his guitar virtuosity to Pittsburgh’s Hard Rock Cafe in support of his new album Season of the Witch, released March 3. The rain did little to keep concert goers away as the guitar great played to a near capacity crowd.

The setlist heavily favored his newest release, but featured songs from Careful with that Axe, God Told Me To, and The Devil Knows My Name. He blitzed through the set with songs featuring hard rock, metal, country, bluegrass, and rockabilly styles highlighting his gifted guitar playing. If you are someone that is into guitar, John 5 is not one to be missed, especially in an intimate venue, he offers something for everyone and the diverse crowd was an indication of that.

The enthusiastic crowd was treated to a ten minute long medley of songs from bands that influenced John 5 over the years such as Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Kiss, and, of course, Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie.

John 5 and the Creatures finish up their tour April 16 at Reggies in Chicago. In May, John will head out on the road with Rob Zombie for a few dates in Argentina and Brazil before heading to Europe in June. They return to the States in July.

John 5, born John William Lowery in Grosse Pointe, MI, began playing guitar at age seven. Initially influenced by Hee Haw and The Monkees, John made his way to L.A. as a teenager. He worked as a session musician before being hooked up with Lita Ford then Randy Castillo. He played guitar on k.d. lang’s 1997 world tour followed by an industrial metal project, 2w0, with legend Rob Halford. He then received a much sought after guitar gig playing for David Lee Roth. before joining Marilyn Manson in 1998. After five years, John left Manson and joined Rob Zombie.
