Ben Kerns – Damaged Goods

Equal parts intellect and passion, Damaged Goods examines raw emotions, philosophy, social issues and love over instrumentals influenced by jazz, soul and underground rap.

In the wake of his 2015 Introspective LP, Ben Kerns spent the year focusing his effort on this 20 minute barrage of raw emotion and lyricism. Kerns expands his sound with skilled production from Samurai Del, Chemist, Kountdown and Chris LaBella. The Wisconsin rapper embraces his unique style with a lyricism, flow and voice that is immune to artist comparison, while utilizing more of his trombone-playing and singing to generate catchy hooks. While Kerns revisits past themes of introspection and politics, the underlying narrative in Damaged Goods centers around the duality of fear and love. For all of his strengths and flaws, Kerns attempts to get at the root of what makes him human.
