Madonna Presents an Evening of Music, Art, Mischief & Performance to Benefit Raising Malawi on Dec 2 in Miami Beach

Madonna will present an evening of music, art, mischief and performance to benefit Raising Malawi during Art Basel on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Faena Forum in Miami Beach, FL.  The Material Girl will be joined by special guests:  Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn, Emmy and Grammy awarding-winning comedian Chris Rock, two-time Grammy nominated singer Ariana Grande, and more.  James Corden, host of Late Late Show, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the incredible night and Milutin Gatsby will serve as Fundraising Chairman for this incredible benefit evening.   MDNA Skin will be among the event’s sponsors with additional support from BVLGARI.

“Founding Raising Malawi is one of the most meaningful things I have done in my life,” said Madonna.  “Raising Malawi’s evening of art, music and mischief at Art Basel will support our latest project to establish Malawi’s first pediatric surgery and intensive care unit.  I’m excited to give others the opportunity to be part of this undertaking that will ultimately safe lives and help the children of Malawi.”

Attending guests will be treated to a once in a lifetime special performance by award-winning global superstar Madonna, as well as a cocktail reception and seated dinner.  The evening will feature a live auction conducted by Alexander Gilkes, co-founder of Paddle 8.  The auction will include works from Madonna’s personal collection including Tamara de Lempicka’s painting La Couronne de Fleurs (1925) Tracey Emin’s print It Just Happens (2001), and three Herb Ritts prints from her 1985 wedding to Sean Penn.  Other works by artists Damien Hirst, Julian Schnabel, Cindy Sherman, Richard Prince, Marilyn Minter, Ai Wei Wei, Steven Klein and Steven Meisel will also be up for grabs to the highest bidder.   Pierre Dolmans and Lisa Schiff will curate the art auction.

Additionally, guests will have the opportunity to bid on a trip with Madonna to visit Malawi for the opening of the new Mercy James Institute of Pediatric Surgery and Intensive Care, a portrait session with famed photography duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, as well as the Jeremy Scott for Moschino in collaboration with Rebel Heart Tour Costume Designer Arianne Phillips dress worn by Madonna on the Rebel Heart Tour.

All proceeds from the evening will benefit Raising Malawi, the non-profit organization founded by Madonna in 2006 as it works to build Malawi’s first pediatric surgery and intensive care unit.  The new facility, to be named the Mercy James Institute of Pediatric Surgery and Intensive Care, is set to open in 2017 and will double the number of life-saving surgeries performed on children each year, provide intensive care after critical surgeries, and train specialized Malawian medical staff. In a country with only four pediatric surgeons and where 50% of the population is under the age of 15, this new facility will transform the lives of Malawian children.

“This fundraiser is critical to supporting Raising Malawi’s goal of improving access to high quality pediatric health care in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world,” said Sarah Ezzy, Executive Director of Global Philanthropy Group, which manages Raising Malawi. This event will occur at the Faena Forum thanks to the generosity of Alan Faena and Len Blavantik.  Special thanks to Guy Oseary.

Founded by Madonna in 2006, Raising Malawi addresses the poverty and hardship endured by Malawi’s orphans and vulnerable children. Raising Malawi partners with local organizations to provide Malawian children and their caregivers with critical resources including medical care and education.
