Cleveland-based multi-instrumentalist Marcus Alan Ward has released his new single “Devil In Popular Culture”. The funk meets alt-rock track is a psychedelic commentary on the adverse effects of social media, oversharing, and surveillance.
“I think it taps into an increasing paranoia and cultural unease that’s present in 2016,” says Ward. “Sonically, it’s a healthy mix of soul, garage rock, electro and beyond. I had a lot of fun with this one.“
“Devil In Popular Culture” is Ward’s second single released this year, following up the relaxing and soulful music video for “Little Sunshine.” After receiving acclaim for his 2014 LP Last Night I Grew Tentacles on sites like The FADER, Ward decided to ditch the album format and focus on releasing each song separately, making it into a full experience.
