Brighton-based 5 piece, Fickle Friends has teamed up with electronic soul duo HONNE (whose music has been praised by The Guardian, DIY, Clash, Nylon and more) for a remix of their new single “Cry Baby”! In addition, Apple named Fickle Friends their “New Artist of the Week” this week.
“Both the song and video are inspired by the [John] Waters film…aesthetically and musically,” Fickle Friends front woman Natti Shiner explains. “It’s pretty cynical and I wanted to create a video that reflected that and the dark twisted and almost uncomfortable elements seen in the ‘Cry Baby’ film.” PRESS HERE to watch the video for “Cry Baby,” which was directed by Brother Willis and premiered on Nylon.
“Cry Baby” originally premiered on Stereogum and Huw Stephens’ BBC Radio 1 show and was recorded in LA earlier this year with producer Mike Crossey (Foals, The 1975). Paste Magazine praised the track as “filled with fun synth beats, bitchin’ bass, catchy lyrics and dazzling vocals,” while Stereogum called it “a bouncy, infectious jam with super groovy bass, playful synth stutters, and slapping drums.”
Fickle Friends, Natti Shiner [vocals/synth], Chris Hall [guitar], Jack Wilson [keys], Harry Herrington [bass] and Sam Morris [drums], have spent the past two years playing over 53 festivals around the UK and Europe, honing their live set and accumulating a dedicated following along the way, and have sold out five headline shows in London. Fickle Friends will be playing Together the People, Festival No. 6, and Pitchfork Festival Paris and more this year and tickets are on sale now for their largest headline show to date at London’s Heaven on December 1st.
