Must Be The Holy Ghost Shares New Song “Might Crack”

Alt-electronic artist Must Be The Holy Ghost streams “Might Crack”, the second single from his upcoming EP Overflow. The project is the solo endeavor of North Carolina native Jared Draughon who will release the new EP on September 16th via Cardigan Records.

The music has a ‘walking on a nice sunny day with headphones’ kind of vibe to me, so I wanted to contrast that with the lyrics,” says Draughon. “The notion that I ‘might crack’ at any moment even though I’m currently alright appealed to me. You never know what might push someone over the edge…a story we hear about all too often in the news. I’m not referring to a person with a short temper, but a well composed individual going through some tough times and is close to hitting their breaking point.

The sophomore EP will be out on 9/16 and is a thumping, emotive record, but the single “Might Crack” leans a little more towards the indie rock realm. A video for the EP’s first single “Melt Down” can be seen here and showcases Draughon’s signature live performance in which visual artist Evan Hawkins uses water and food-coloring on an overhead projector to bathe the show in swirling colors. About Must Be The Holy Ghost:
Must Be The Holy Ghost (MBTHG) is the latest vehicle for North Carolina’s longtime sonic traveler Jared Draughon. Layered electronic rhythms fuse with thick looping guitars and soaring vocals, a sound both intricately crafted but with ever shifting landscapes.

After fronting touring bands in Brooklyn, NY and Chapel Hill, NC for the last decade, Draughon began his unorthodox approach to a solo project in 2012. MBTHG has since opened for various acts including The XX, Torche, Whirr, He is Legend, House of Fools and William Tyler.

Live MBTHG consists of Draughon on stage with various pedals and an array of different amps to build layers of guitar and vocals over tight drum loops. Within the limitations of loop music, Draughon manages to create unusually structured and complex songs with distinct movements, largely through his gift for melody. Impassioned vocals, often stacked in multiple harmonies, draw you into a world that is far from constrained by the underpinning loops. MBTHG often teams up live with analog visual psych artist Evan Hawkins to unfold a narrative bathed in swirling colors.

In 2014 Cardigan Records released MBTHG’s debut album, “Get Off”, which showcases the loop-based art while still maintaining songs with emotional conviction. The follow-up EP Overflow will be released on September 16th.
