Known widely for drumming, Dave Diamond’s music career spans more than twenty years. He has not only had a solo career but has also made a name for himself as a singer/songwriter, band member and session musician. His accomplishments are many, and his list of talented musicians collaborated with is long and impressive as he has been featured in Modern Drummer and Drum Magazine. He is most known for his drumming for bands like Assembly of Dust and Zen Trickster. Dave’s influences include a long list of contemporary indie rock, 60s and early 70s artists.

Having learned this about Dave Diamond, I was intrigued to hear what kind of music he would produce and how his influences, experience and drumming would impact his music.

“Trios,” his current and 26th in his discography, is a culmination of great beats, talented musicianship and catchy lyrics. I really enjoyed the upbeat sound of the songs accompanied by his smooth voice. The guitars, drum beats, and bass added unique and memorable sounds to each song – Dave Diamond definitely knows how to produce and arrange a song. I thoroughly enjoyed the songs Breaking Hearts, Little Things, Pick You Up and Little Big Girl. I felt they best showcased his abilities, range and talent. They made a memorable impression on me.

Unfortunately his voice did fall flat on a few of the songs but I think that’s something that could easily be corrected with a different arrangement or better recording equipment. Also, the lyrics seemed slightly repetitive, the same words used frequently.

That doesn’t stop me from listening or being appreciative of the songs – I definitely want to listen to more of his music to get a better feel of his style. He is very talented and has good music to listen to.
