San Diego Pop-Punkers Alive & Well Release ‘From Basements to Beaches’ EP

Alive & Well, the pop-punk/rock band from San Diego, CA are thrilled to release their sophomore release, From Basements to Beaches! The 4-song EP was engineered and mixed by Beau Burchell (Saosin) at The Cottage, and mastered by Alan Douches at West Side Music. The EP is a concept album about addressing a problem in your life and working hard to resolve it. The overall message is to have a positive and determined attitude about your life. As told by Matt, “Bad things will happen, you’ll have to encounter heartbreak, death, and tragedy and you’ll have to move through it.”

“Alive & Well’s EP, From Basements to Beaches, embodies so many things I love; music that reminds me of the sunny beaches of California, aggressive riffs where I can feel the members emotions, and lyrics that hit home on so many aspects of my life. What more could you want in a pop punk band?” – Fuck Yeah Pop Punk

In anticipation for the release the band partnered with New Noise Magazine to unveil their latest music video for single, “Addictions.” Lead singer Matt Vernon wrote the tune during his move cross country and his first impressions of people he met out West. He continues:

“I found a lot of hypocrisy in people who were once alcoholics and now die hard vegetarians who would condemn me for my ways when from my point of view I felt like they are still being dominated by an addiction but that they simply just traded out and got a sense of self righteousness that they could tell me that I was wrong for thinking other wise. The second verse goes into using the same comparison of former junkies who now live under strict guidelines of christianity. In my eyes I still see it as an addiction and more tolerable force that will still dominate every aspect of your life. As an outspoken atheist this song represents my views on having a less than popular ideology and complete lack of care about what people think about it.”

More about Alive & Well:
Stemming from San Diego, the pop punk/rock band, Alive and Well consist of Matt Vernon, Eric Brozgold, and Mike Mule. Originating as an acoustic project, founding member Matt Vernon started playing music at a very young age and continued to perform and play well through college where he was classically trained in Jazz and Classical Trombone. But it was at the end of High School that Matt got a real taste of the music industry to which drove him to pursue his career further. Post College, Matt formed Alive and Well, a new venture to provide a creative outlet for his dramatic changes he was making in his life. After several years performing under the moniker, Matt joined forces with Mike and Eric to reform the newest rendition of Alive and Well to its form today. Matt realized the songs leant themselves to a larger orchestration and members were added from the local scene. Over the years the band built quite the following by playing shows alongside heavy-hitters like Light Years, Driver Friendly, Such a Mess, Head North, and A Will Away and self-produced their first EP, The Escapism Sessions.

Their sophomore EP, From Basement To Beaches is due for release June 3rd, was engineered and mixed by Beau Burchell (Saosin) at The Cottage, and mastered by Alan Douches at West Side Music. The EP is a concept album about addressing a problem in your life and working hard to resolve it. The overall message is to have a positive and determined attitude about your life. As told by Matt, “Bad things will happen, you’ll have to encounter heartbreak, death, and tragedy and you’ll have to move through it.”
