Lord Huron has put out two full length albums, Lonesome Dreams and Strange Trails, since 2012. But it is on their 2015 release that Lord Huron shines the brightest with their single “The Night we Met.”

Starting off with an angelic chorus of “ooh’s,” the tune transitions effortlessly into lead singer Ben Schneider’s haunting and mournful vocals. The performance is 100% earnest, digging deep into both songwriter and the audience’s hearts. It is bound to gut even the most casual listener with strong and sorrowful lyrics that are beautifully painful. The chorus displays the workmanship and general weight of the song with Schneider crying :

“ I had all and then most of you, some and now none of you Take me back to the night we met I don’t know what I’m supposed to do, haunted by the ghost of you Oh take me back to the night we met”

Yet it is upon the start of the second verse of the track when Lord Huron really digs a musical knife into ones innermost soul. Coming out of the first half of the song listeners have already let themselves feel along with Lord Huron, but when Schneider reminisces longingly about the past (“When the night was full of terror/And your eyes were filled with tears/When you had not touched me yet/ Oh take me back to the night we met”) it puts the heartache into full understanding, elevating it to a top track of 2015.
