David Arn – Walking to Dreamland
David Arn recently just dropped his latest 10 song CD called “Walking to Dreamland” Arn is clearly not a new comer to songwriting or performing. He’s a seasoned performer and composer who drops deep deep ballads thus taking the listener on a musical journey through reflective, touching, poetic expressions into a world of captivatingly beautiful and syncopated vocal harmonies. In his own words: he is a vintage singer, songwriter and musician best known for his intellectual lyrical style. He currently has two albums entitled, “Postmodern Days” and “Walking to Dreamland”. Among myriad outlets Arn’s music has been featured on NPR stations and heard on Delta Airlines commercial flights. The remaining material offers a more electrically charged display of raw emotion and high energy that, combined with the acoustic ballads, provide the listener a wide spectrum of listening enjoyment. This is his second release to date.
“Walking to Dreamland” is a carefully crafted collection of songs showcasing Folk, Rock and Americana Pop artisanship at its best. The end result creates a foundation for memorable and at times uplifting group of songs. There’s also a clear-defined message about love and life itself that will sure to have a positive impact on many listeners. You can definitely hear the Folk/Americana influence in his music. But beware because Arn has a dark side that you would be wise not to underestimate. Especially on songs like “Better Off Today”, “Rosalina’s Music (Nexus Chokehold)” and “When You Lost Your Situation:” Personally I see Arn as a hybrid between David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) and Leonard Cohen. What’s more vocals from Arn possess an inviting timber that will be sure to gravitate many traditional folk-type listeners as well. The first few tracks title track, “”Better Off Today”, “Even in a Town of Seven Churches (Odds are Even)” set the preliminary mood extremely well. “Real Time” and “When You Lost Your Situation” keep the flow honest, powerful and clairvoyant – making no apologies in their stance. My favorite song is a toss-up between the title track and “When You Lost Your Situation.” Overall there are 3 things I really like about “Walking to Dreamland.” This may be the most mysterious and melancholy CD’s I’ve heard in quite a while. I literally believed and felt every word this man sang. I picked up on this right away as the album has many layers kind of like an Onion. David Arn has the courage to write and play music the way he writes and plays. A far cry from the “sell out” corporate approach. Whereas 90% of the bands could care less about this approach as they just want to make labels happy. This is one of the most important aspects for me when evaluating talent. Keeping this in mind I’d rather listen to the music of David Arn than any tacky cut and paste pop artist out there right now. Overall, this latest release from David Arn entitled “Walking to Dreamland” pulls out all the stops and will bring nothing but positives to the musical status quos.
“Walking to Dreamland” by David Arn is filled with much in the way of integrity, passion, amazing songwriting, solid chops and rock solid production value. All this and more makes David Arn a true-blue “diamond in the rough” and a force to be reckoned with in the legions of Folk and traditional “striking” Singer/Songwriter styles music.
