Megan McConnel is in the studio producing, arranging, composing, and performing (piano and singing) her first album – which will be released in spring 2014. She was chosen as Reverbnation’s Featured Artist this week based off of the high ratings of her songs. Megan likes to mix blues with R&b and soul.
Megan McConnel is a singer-pianist-songwriter-and aspiring producer hailing from Chicago. Just two years ago, Megan was only a vocalist, but she’s not just any vocalist. She left home at the age of 15 to study at Interlochen Academy of the Fine Arts, which boasts alumni such as Josh Groban, Norah Jones, and Jewel. She was trained classically, and immersed in a pool of some of the worlds most talented musicians. Although she loves the technique she learned through classical singing, Megan was always attracted to the gritty and powerful vocal stylings of Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, and Etta James. She moved to Chicago to sing the blues. Megan quickly earned the respect of the Chicago blues scene and was referred to as ‘Baby Blues’ for her ability to harness and express raw emotion at the tender age of 18. She performed around the city at such places as the Chicago Blues Festival, Taste of Chicago, Navy Pier, and Buddy Guys Legends.
Megan always wanted to be more than just a singer. She packed her bags and moved to Seattle – influenced by the artistic integrity displayed by both Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix. She took the city by storm, performing at top venues including Neumos, Lo-fi, Edgewater, Amber Lounge, and many others. One of the highlights was opening for grammy nominated artist and Obama’s favorite singer, Anthony David. She released a 6 song demo, which the Stranger described as ‘robust and bodacious’
Currently, Megan is spending each waking breath working on her new album – of which she is the executive producer, composer, arranger, and of course pianist and singer. Watch out for her best work yet – which is set to be released in Spring 2014!
