Single Review. “Flowers” – Palmas

Anyone who is familiar with Palmas music knows that the band thrives on retro sounding tunes. Earlier this year Palmas released their new single “Flowers,” and it certainly lived up to this reviewers expectations.

Like something out of a fevered dream lead singer Kurt Cain, with a layered effect on his voice, delivers a masterful performance that sounds straight out of the 60s. It is trippy and psychedelic with hints of The Monkees, SGT Pepper era Beatles, and The Beach Boys. In more modern comparisons, it sounds like something The Explorers Club could have conjured up on their album Grand Hotel.

The lyrics also contribute to the quality of the song as the tune starts off with “her love will never be sure/flowers have grown here before/never any doubt/I couldn’t live without her.” The imagery is strong here throughout the track and matches the tone of the tune, flowery in full bloom.

Authentically sounding like it could have been released decades past Palmas have a knack for nailing down a throwback vibe with ease and it translates into yet another masterpiece from the band.
