Gallery & Review: Dorothy at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ 07.14.16

Fresh off the highly anticipated release of their debut studio album, ROCKISDEAD, Los Angeles rockers Dorothy have joined The Struts on the road this summer across North America. Kicking off the night (and tour) at Asbury Park’s historical Stone Pony, Dorothy clearly showed they are worth the buzz.

Wielding classic rocker-chick panache, Dorothy delivers powerhouse trashy rock reminiscent of vintage Sunset Strip, and undeniable sex appeal. Frontwoman and namesake, Dorothy Martin’s vocals soar flawlessly, punching a healthy dose of badass soul into modern bluesy-rock tunes. Their presence is fueled by a true rock & roll no fucks attitude that knows how to have fun and isn’t afraid to get a little dirty. There is nothing pretentious here, no theatrics – just pure talent and an eagerness to perform and be heard. With the thick of the crowd on the palm of their hands, I’d say they do a damn good job.

Despite hitting all big tracks like “Raise Hell,” “Kiss It,” “Dark Nights” and “Gun in My Hand,” the short opening slot left me wanting more.

Dorothy packs a punch, on record and in person. Can’t imagine it will be too long before we  get to see them command a bigger stage. Till then, be sure to catch them on tour this summer (see dates below).
